Shanghai International F1 Circuit –

In another successful weekend for the BlackArts Racing Asian F3 squad, Brendon Leitch of New Zealand took to the podium once again in the OLOI Powered by BAR car. Not to be outdone, teammate Thomas Luedi of Switzerland took double podiums in the Masters Class over the triple-header race weekend at the famous Shanghai F1 Circuit.

Leitch took top 5 or better in all practices and qualifying, with the exception of the initial paid practice session where he had experienced a technical gearbox issue that was quickly remedied by the capable BAR race technicians on the advanced Tatuus F3 T-318, 270hp turbocharged race car.

Teammate Thomas Luedi led the Masters in practice and qualifying with the exception of the Qualifying 2 session, narrowly beaten by Paul Wong of the 852 Challengers team.

In Race One, Leitch started on the second row in 4th and with a consistently fast pace, took yet another podium in the OLOI Powered by BAR car, while unfortunately teammate Thomas Luedi DNFd due to a technical issue on what would have been another Masters Class victory.

In Race Two, Leitch dropped two places down the order from his P4 grid position at the start, but quickly charged up the field to overtake Absolute Racing’s Eshan Pieris. Leitch then went for Super License Team’s Yu Kanamaru, but the Japanese driver mounted a strong defense and held Leitch at bay with the Kiwi finishing 5th. However teammate Thomas Luedi fended off title rival Paul Wong to claim another Masters win after a fierce battle with the 852 Challengers driver.

Race Three was drama-filled, with Leitch starting P5 behind Absolute Racing’s Cao Zuo. On the start, Leitch took the outside line to pass Cao going up the hill into T2, but Leitch and Cao collided with Leitch dropping back in the field. After a safety car period and race restart, Leitch steadily moved up, passing Pinnacle Motorsport’s Tommy Smith, then Super License Team’s Yu Kanamaru, progressing to finish sixth. However, Leitch later received a ten second penalty for the race start incident with Cao, demoting him to eighth. Meanwhile, Luedi took his second Masters victory of the day to bring home yet another Masters Class win for the BAR squad.

The F3 Asian Championship Certified by FIA returns to the Shanghai International Circuit for its season finale on September 27 and 28, where Races 13-15 will be held.
