The BlackArts Racing team extended their FIA Chinese F4 Driver’s Championship lead from 13 to 43 points on a successful weekend with driver Daim Hishammudin and Osclar Lee at the Chengdu Goldenport Circuit on July 20-22. They also continue to lead the Team’s Classification.

With unofficial testing starting on Wednesday, it was a busy week for the team in the run up to the all important qualifying session on Saturday afternoon. The notoriously bumpy Chengdu circuit proved challenging for the drivers, but a stellar performance from Daim saw him continue BAR’s run of pole positions in the series, while Oscar managed to qualify in P8 with his best laptime of the weekend.

Race one took place Saturday late afternoon, and a good start saw Daim retain the lead while Oscar retained his position to run P8. A few mistakes meant Daim dropped to 2nd and then was hit by the third-placed driver, but thanks to a strong fightback Daim managed to take another podium with P2. Meanwhile, Oscar had a strong run to finish the race in 8th.

The race two grid is decided from the finishing positions in race one, and on Saturday morning Daim had a straight forward run to the flag in 2nd position, while Oscar had a battling, determined race to finish 7th, ahead of a gaggle of cars squabbling for position. The most exciting race of the weekend came in the final event – where the top 10 positions from race two are reversed. Oscar lined up in 4th place, while Daim took to the start in P9. A superb start from both drivers saw Oscar move into 2nd, while Daim moved up to 4th before a racing incident in turn 3 led to a broken wing for the young Monster Energy-backed driver. Racing continued after a brief safety car period, and Oscar brilliantly took the lead of the race, before Daim and a rival driver made contact which put the Singaporean into the gravel and out of the race. Oscar meanwhile flew the flag for the BlackArts Racing team, taking his joint-best result in Chinese F4 with 4th place.

Daim Hishammudin: “It has been a long and informative weekend! Firstly, I’d like to thank the Blackarts Racing team, Monster Energy, my manager Alex Yoong and everyone behind the scenes who is supporting me to compete in the FIA Chinese F4 Championship. It was great to take pole position on a track where I had a lot to learn throughout the weekend. This event has brought to my attention areas where we need to work on, so all my focus will be on improving these for the next event in Ningbo!”

Oscar Lee: “A tough unforgiving weekend for myself but I was delighted to bring away some good results with me this weekend and have my first experience of leading a car race and battling on such a difficult and bumpy track. I feel like we made a step this weekend, and a breakthrough is just around the corner for us to be able to compete at the front in all races. I’m thankful to be a part of a team who pushes me and helps me grow as an individual. I’m looking forward to coming back stronger at the next events.”

Joshua Evans, General Manager of BAR: “It has been a challenging weekend but ultimately this will make us all stronger in the long run. We achieved our aim to extend our driver’s Championship Lead and will now regroup in the coming weeks to make the improvements necessary to come back and continue our competitiveness. I’d like to say a big thank you to all the mechanics for their hard work in the last 3 weeks.”

The BlackArts Racing team will next be in action at the Ningbo International Circuit with the FIA Chinese F4 and FIA Asian F3 Championships on 24-26 August 2018.

BlackArts Racing (BAR) is a premier championship winning race team headquartered in Hong Kong with operations at the Zhuhai International Circuit (ZIC).
