BlackArts Racing takes triple win hat trick in FIA China F4 Chengdu races
BlackArts Racing [BAR] has extended its lead in the 2017 China F4 series thanks to stellar performances in Rounds 4-6 on May 20-21 at Chengdu Goldenport International Circuit.
In Saturday morning's qualifying, Josh Burdon [Australia] and Charles Leong [Macau] took a commanding 1-2 over the field to earn their places on the first row for Race One on Saturday afternoon.
In Race One [Round 4 of the 2017 FIA China F4 Championship], Burdon finished far ahead of the field to take the win.
Starting from the back of the grid in the rain of Race Two [Round 5], Leong charged up the field into 2nd behind Josh Burdon after a single lap to put BAR into P1-2, where they stayed until the checkered flag, with 3rd place Glory Racing finishing over 30 seconds behind in P3.
In Race Three [Round 6], once again BAR showed its mettle despite the 'reverse grid' which meant the weekend's best performing drivers had to start in the back of the field: during a dramatic televised race, Leong and Burdon stormed up to P3&P4 in just a few laps, with the podium in sight. After Leong and Burdon swapped positions, Burdon made the pass to move into 2nd place with just two laps remaining. With a large gap to P1 and just a few corners left, Burdon passed the lead driver and crossed the checkered flag to take a dramatic win for BAR; meanwhile Leong had made a skilful pass in the final laps to finish P3, while also taking the 2nd fastest race lap for Race Three as he had for Race Two.
Thanks to the outstanding performances of the BAR drivers, BlackArts Racing team has extended its dominance of the 2017 FIA China F4 Championship with Charles Leong in the lead, Josh Burdon already 3rd in points after a single race weekend, and BAR leading the team points by a wide margin.
Rounds 7-9 will be held at Beijing Goldenport International Circuit June 24-25, shortly after which BlackArts Racing will compete in Round 5-6 of the Asia Formula Renault Championship on July 1-2 at the new Zhejiang International Circuit near Shanghai, seeking to continue its lead in the 2017 AFR Series.
