January 11, 2020

Dubai Autodrome –

In what could only be called the most amazing weekend in the history of BlackArts Racing, the Sepang/Zhuhai based race squad extended its lead in Round Two of the 2020 Asian F3 Driver and Team Championship thanks to triple wins from Dutch Driver Joey Alders, Japan’s Yu Kanamaru, and Swiss pilot Thomas Luedi in the Masters.

Round Two of the 2020 season featured a compressed schedule, due to the 24 Hours of Dubai GT race taking place from last Saturday, with the F3 races taking place on Thursday and Friday.

Asian F3 Race One took place on Thursday, with Alders starting 4th on the grid and going on to finish the race a solid 2nd place on the podium and earning valuable championship points in the OLOI Powered by BAR race car. Meanwhile, teammate Yu Kanamaru started the race in 1tth, but finished in the points in 9th while teammate Thomas Luedi unfortunately DNF’d while chasing yet another Masters victory.

However, in Friday morning’s Race Two, held under rain conditions, BAR’s 2019 Asia Formula Renault Champion “The Flying Dutchman” Joey Alders started in 3rd position and made quick work of Jake Hughes and Nikita Mazepin in the very first corner at the race start, to immediately take the lead and never looking back before crossing the checkered for the win, in yet another absolutely dominant rain performance.

Meanwhile, in Race Two Thomas Luedi finished 2nd on the podium in the Masters while Yu Kanamaru started 10th on the grid and finished 10th, a disappointing performance from the extremely talented Japanese driver who just four weeks previously had established a new F3 lap record at the Sepang F1 Circuit. However, Kanamaru was seemingly simply warming up in races one and two to deliver the most dominant performance ever seen in Asian F3, in the weekends final race.

Race Three took place on Friday afternoon and featured nonstop action, with Alders starting 4th and Kanamaru 9th, with Alders moving up and down the field during the 30 minute race to finish on the podium in 3rd and later moving to 2nd after Nikita Mazepin was penalized for forcing Alders off the track several times. Meanwhile, Thomas Luedi took victory in the Masters Class to close the points gap to Paul Wong.

However, without a doubt the star of the Race Three show was BlackArts Racing’s Yu Kanamaru, who had started back in 9th and steadily moved up the field to take the lead with at least a half dozen laps to go, and during those laps, consistently extending his 4-5 second lead per lap, to take victory with an unbelievable 23.5 second lead for BAR.

The 2020 Asian F3 Certified by FIA Championship will now head to the famous Yas Marina F1 Circuit for Round 3, which will take place on January 17th-18th. With OLOI Powered by BAR’s F3 rookie Alders at a dominating 126 points vs Red Bull driver 2nd year Asian F3 driver Jack Doohan at 89 points, the title chase is truly on. Meanwhile BlackArts Racing has a lead of 173 points versus Absolute Racing’s 111 points in the Team Championship, but with no less than three rounds/9 races to go, BAR has their work cut out for them.

Driver Quotes:
Yu Kanamaru: "It has been quite tough races recently, but finally had everything together for Race 3 here in Dubai.
I’m very happy with the result and would like to thank this team for their hard work, and sponsors and people who kept believing in me.
Now onto the Abu Dhabi, and we just have to do the same job we did.
We will rise from here."
