Yu Kanamaru joins BlackArts Racing for 2020 Asian F3 Certified by FIA

BlackArts Racing is pleased to announce the signing of accomplished Japanese driver Yu Kanamaru to its Asian F3 2020 season line up, with the series commencing next week with the Official Test at Sepang International F1 Circuit on Sunday the 8th of December, followed by the opening triple header race weekend on 14th-15th December.

Kanamaru comes to the championship with vast racing experience and many accolades earned in karting and formula cars, including winning several Japanese karting championships and a top finish in the famous SKUSA SuperNationals. After karting, in 2012 he moved up to Formula Renault 2.0 Eurocup, took on the F3 Macau GP and went on to race F3 in EuroFormula Open, Formula Renault 3.5, Japanese F3 and the F3 Asian Championship in 2019.

At BlackArts Racing, the 25 year old will join experienced Asian F3 pilot Thomas Luedi of Switzerland for the 2020 season. The F3 Asian Championship Certified by FIA will now follow a new compact winter calendar for its third season, running 5 race triple header race weekends December – February. The new compact winter schedule format will enable drivers to earn Super License points ahead of the start of the regular racing seasons in Europe.

The championship will begin December 14-15 at Malaysia’s Sepang International F1 Circuit before heading to the Middle East for the Dubai Autodrome in support of the Dubai 24 Hours on January 10-11, followed the next week at the Yas Marina F1 Circuit in Abu Dhabi on January 17-18. The series will then return to Asia and the Sepang International F1 Circuit on Feb 14-15, then conclude at Thailand’s Buriram International Circuit on February 23, with the final two rounds running with the Asian Le Mans Series.

Yu Kanamaru: “It is honor to join BAR for this upcoming season, and can’t give thanks enough for Bill and my sponsors for this opportunity. I believe in their potential, and if we work together correctly, we can surely achieve a great result. Can’t wait to get started!”

Bill O’Brien, Team Principal: “We are very excited to have Yu joining us in our F3 program for 2020. He brings strong experience and a good pace to our line-up, and we wish him the best of luck for these next few months.”

As with previous seasons, the series will feature an extensive media program with live streaming of all races as well as major media exposure across various online and print outlets.
