BAR joins China F4 Championship

BlackArts Racing has announced Charles Leong and Louis Prette for the first round of the Chinese Formula 4 Championship. The championship kicks off this coming weekend at Zhuhai International Circuit with both drivers and the team looking for strong results.

Leong and Prette have already taken to a strong start in BAR’s Asia Formula Renault program, which started last month with the opening round at he ZIC track. Leong dominated with the pole position, a new lap record and both wins, while Prette joined him on the podium for both races.

“After the double wins last month in AFR, I’m really excited to go for a repeat in this weekend’s F4 events”, said Leong, “It’s a very different car, a different kind of challenge. I’ve had some limited competition in F4 and this year I really want to be at the top in both AFR and F4″.

Prette added, “This will be a new experience for me, but I will push hard and we’ve got rain in the forecast for the weekend, which just makes me all the more excited about the races. I’m really hoping to make a good showing in my F4 debut this weekend, and I know I have good engineers and coaches behind me in BAR to help me adapt quickly to the car.”

BAR’s Managing Partner Bill O’Brien said, “We have consistently achieved strong results in Asian Formula Renault, winning the 2015 and 2016 Championships, so we felt it was right to complement that program with Formula 4. Formula 4 is clearly the next step after go karting and it gives BAR the ability to offer young drivers a clearly defined pathway to progress from Karting, to F4, then Formula Renault and Europe“.

The Chinese F4 Championship is contested over seven events, including races at the Shanghai F1 circuit and support races for the World Touring Car Championship at the brand-new Ningbo Circuit.

With a series prize pool of in excess of US$140,000, BlackArts Racing will be looking to add further entries to its F4 campaign this year for suitable drivers.
