When the Australian Production Car Series hits the Phillip Island Grand prix Circuit across May 27-29 for its first round of the year, it will do so with not one, but two ‘fly in-fly out’ racers taking part. Hong Kong-based Australian Troy Williams will be joined by Ho Chi Minh city-based Vietnamese-American Rich Pham in a BlackArts Racing entry at the event. Williams got a taste for Australian production car racing at Sydney Motorsport Park late last year, and now Pham – a partner in the highly successful BlackArts Racing team which supports Williams racing both in Australia and Asia – wants to get in on the action as his team looks to spread its wings outside of Asia. “The BlackArts Racing outfit is dominating in the Asian Formula Renault Series so far this year, and as part of our growth plans we want to spread our wings into other countries,” said Pham. “We are one of the most successful racing teams in China in both Formula and Touring Cars – every race weekend, our drivers are on the podium. Last year for instance, our drivers were the Asian Formula Renault Champion, the Circuit Hero Class A Champion and the Circuit Hero Class C Champion. “I am certainly keen to get a taste of touring car racing in Australia at the iconic Phillip Island circuit. I have heard a lot about the track from my friends in Australia, it is certainly one of the most famous and fast tracks and I have always wanted to race there.” Pham is currently racing in China’s Circuit Hero series, which is dominated by Porsches and GT3-type cars. “I have been racing for 10 years in raced Formula Fords, Formula Renault, Formula Geely, and now touring cars in China – in Circuit Hero I was the 2015 Champion in the C Class which is for cars with a 2.0L engine. I have undertaken endurance racing and sprint racing all over the world, including at the Dubai 24 Hour and the Spa Fun Cup 25 Hour, where I came home in 3rd place,” said Pham. “Troy and I have known each other from racing in China and we have teamed up before for the 500km race in Zhuhai – I am very comfortable with him as my team mate and am looking forward to what we can do together in the VE Commodore at Phillip Island.” Source: http://australianproductioncars.com.au/2016/05/06/apcs-attracts-international-interest/
