AFR R5- BAR Extends Lead with Pole & Double Wins; takes Team Championship
Sepang International Circuit –
This weekend, BlackArts Racing continued its lead in the 2018 Asia Formula Renault Championship in Round 5 [races 9-10] of the series.
BAR’s Daniel Cao took pole positions for both races in qualifying, going on to dominate both events with pole to checkered flag wins and no less than a 13 second lead in race one. He was also the only driver in the 2:04s in both races, setting the fastest race laps even on his used set of qualifying tires in race two. Cao now leads the 2018 Asia Formula Renault Championship by 29 points from second place Luo Kai Luo, with just one round remaining.
Teammate Antolin Gonzalez achieved double podiums with 3rd in Race One and 2nd in Race Two, and is now 3rd in the Driver’s Championship points with only a 6 point gap to 2nd place going into the final round.
David Pun and Thomas Luedi finished 8th and 10th in Race Two, with David Pun taking the Master’s Class win.
By virtue of the team points earned through outstanding performances this weekend, BlackArts Racing took its 3rd AFR Team Championship win in a row despite one round remaining in the 2018 series.
This year’s Asia Formula Renault Championship will conclude on September 29-30, again at the Sepang International Circuit, with BlackArts Racing looking to win its 4th Driver Championship in a row and going for 1-2 in the Driver’s Championship with Cao and Gonzalez.
