FIA China F4: BAR Takes 2017 Driver and Team Championships at Ningbo

Ningo International Speedway-

After earning his 11th win of the season in this weekend’s Round 6 of the 2017 FIA China Formula 4 Championship, BlackArts Racing’s Charles Leong has become Driver Champion of the 2017 China F4 series with one round remaining, and BAR has taken victory in the 2017 China F4 Team Championship. In the six rounds of the season, BAR drivers have won an incredible 15 of 17 races in 2017 FIA China F4.

With all three races at the brand-new Ningbo International Circuit held under heavy rain conditions, BAR took 1-2 finishes in Race One and Race Two to seal the Driver and Team Championships for 2017. Additionally, with his triple podiums from the weekend, BAR’s Yves Volte has moved up to 2nd in the driver points with one round remaining, 28-29 October at Ningbo International Circuit.

Ningbo has become an instant favorite of series drivers, with a flowing 26 corner, 4.0km layout. This weekend’s China F4 races were held as a support trace for FIA WTCC [World Touring Car Championship] and CTCC [China Touring Car Championship]. For 2017, Ningbo International Speedpark has become the new China track for the FIA WTCC, replacing Shanghai International Circuit as WTCC’s China event.

Just last month, BAR sealed the 2017 Asia Formula Renault Driver and Team Championships and will look to capitalize on its stellar formula racing success this year by entering two cars in the 2018 Formula Renault NEC Championship, an established stepping stone to F1.

Thanks to this weekend’s China F4 accomplishments, BlackArts Racing has now earned the distinction of becoming the first team to win double formula series in Asia in a single year, with 2017 FIA China F4 Champion driver Charles Leong earning FIA Superlicense points, a 150,000rmb prize package and invitation to this year’s FIA Awards Ceremony.

Leong said: “I really want to thank BlackArts Racing for developing my racing skill this year, not just from the coaching but also really importantly, for the engineering and mechanical sides. I not only had the right setups at the right time, but also reliable machinery to help me win. I am really looking forward to getting over to Europe with BAR for a whole new challenge as they help me continue into my pro racing career.”
