BAR Takes Podium in Debut Circuit Hero 600kms Enduro Race

Zhuhai, China

8 Jan, 2017 -
Today, BlackArts Racing Team [BAR] took to the podium in the first-ever Circuit Hero 600 Enduro, held at Zhuhai International Circuit [ZIC]. The '600' refers to the 600 kilometer/372 mile race distance, a grueling four hour test of man and machine.
With a 29 car field divided into performance classes of Open Class, A, B, C and D, BAR entered a Caterham R500 in the highest division, Open Class, as well as a Scirocco R Cup in Class A.
In qualifying, the Scirocco took 8th in A Class while the Caterham Qualified 4th in the Open Class. Both cars faced an uphill battle, with the Sciroccos pitted against 400+hp Lotus and others, and the Caterham against cars such as the 500+ hp Mercedes Benz AMG SLS GT3 and V8 Radical.
As the race wore on, solid strategy and efficient pitstops by BAR mechanics helped the Caterham and Scirocco make their way up the rankings, while mechanical difficulties thinned the 29 car field. During hour three, the team's hopes for a Caterham podium were almost finished due to an overheating engine, but the car was fixed in less than four minutes by BAR technicians. The underdog Caterham soldiered on and managed to take the checkered flag in 2nd for Open Class, with the Scirocco finishing a solid 5th in the A Class.
BAR has come hot off of its 2016 Asia Formula Renault Championship win to start off the season in style - a podium earned through driving prowess and technical excellence. Drivers Pete Olson, Bill O'Brien and Rich Pham took home hard earned trophies on Sunday, with more sure to follow in the newly-started 2017 race season.
